Iron ore pellets are refined, spherical agglomerates of iron ore with a diameter of 6–18 mm, made from finely ground concentrates or fines. These high-density pellets offer superior efficiency in steel production, especially in Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) and blast furnace operations. Pellets are produced by first upgrading iron ore fines through beneficiation techniques such as magnetic separation and flotation. The upgraded fines are mixed with a binder (commonly bentonite clay) and additives like limestone or dolomite, then rolled into small green balls in pelletizing discs or drums. These green pellets are hardened in an induration furnace at ~1300°C, resulting in durable, high-Fe pellets with controlled size, low moisture, and uniform chemistry. WAO Steels sources pellets through integrated tie-ups with pelletization facilities near mining zones and ports, ensuring cost-effective procurement and end-to-end quality monitoring.

Thanks to our operational proximity to key Western Indian ports such as Reddi Port and Mormugao, WAO Steels ensures smooth port-side loading and timely dispatch of pellet cargo. Pellets are shipped in bulk carriers or containers, depending on destination and buyer requirements. Our logistics network includes pre-shipment inspection, certified weighbridges, port storage, barge handling (where needed), and fast-track documentation for international clearances. We handle all international certifications such as SGS reports, Material Test Certificates (MTC), Certificate of Origin, and fumigation if needed—offering a seamless and compliant export experience.

Iron ore pellets are gaining preference over lumps and sintered ore in global steel plants, particularly in low-emission DRI units and hybrid blast furnaces.
